Renzo Seghesio Barolo Vigna Pajana, 2021, 750 ml (Ned Goodwin MW Selections)
The absolute jewel in the Seghesio crown, this flagship Barolo comes from a cool, high-altitude lieu-dit at the very top of the Ginestra cru, crafted with the strict attention to structural elegance that winemaker Roberto Valetti honed during his six years at Burgundy’s iconic Armand Rousseau.
Tasting Notes
The highly lauded, cool 2021 vintage delivers an exceptionally taut and chiseled profile. It opens with pristine, fine-boned aromas of wild red fruits, roses, and dark tar, driving into a powerful palate where intense, mineral-driven tannins are shaped with Serralunga-like muscle, refinement, and tremendous depth.
Cellaring & Serving Advice
This is a benchmark, purist's Barolo built for the long haul that possesses years of upward trajectory up its sleeve. If you are broaching it in its youth, an aggressive, multi-hour decant is absolutely mandatory; otherwise, bury it deep in the cellar for 5 to 15 years to allow its tightly wound core to fully unfurl. Pairs magnificently with white truffle tajarin or a prime Bistecca.
